Material Expressive
Material Design is a design system and set of guidelines created by Google to help teams build high-quality digital experiences across Android, iOS, Flutter, and the web.
I had the privilege of working with the Material Design team to contribute to the guidelines for the newest 2025 phase, Material Expressive. Following the launch of Material Design 3 in 2024, the team further reimagined the system's components to be more expressive and diverse in terms of shape and color. This work aims to help users create products that are more engaging and user-friendly.

I contributed to the web page component design for several guidelines, including Loading and Progress indicators, FAB and FAB menu, and Split buttons and Button groups. A crucial part of the guidelines was the previews and specifications. These were essential for conveying visual information to users and detailing proper usage along with common misuses to avoid.

Google ABC (Android Business & Communications)
This project was part of a major design refresh for the Google ABC team's apps—Contacts, Dialer, and Messages—which were reborn with the new Material Design language.
I worked closely with the ABC team's designers on the design of the Calling Card (a customizable feature in the Contact & Dialer app that allows users to set a full-screen image and stylized text for how a person’s information appears when they call). This was a key customizable feature, and as previous projects showed, customization has been one of the biggest identities for Google's devices, such as the Pixel phone, since 2023.

For the Messages app, I focused on three main tasks. First, I updated and clarified ambiguous status indicators (read receipts) after exploring a variety of options. Second, I categorized the various banners that were being used unsystematically in the app (appearing in different locations in different contexts), created a design system for them, and refined their visuals to align with the new Material Design. In addition to the banners, I systemized other components such as cards as well, ensuring they were consistent with the banner’s new look.
