ASI (Air Space Intelligence) is a software company that helps airlines improve their operations. Their main platform, Flyways AI, is used by air carriers, such as Alaska Airlines, to optimize flight paths, which helps them save on fuel and reduce carbon emissions.

        They introduced a unique UI style that departs from the prevailing trend of soft, rounded aesthetics, which is dominant in the industry. As the original designer of the existing icons from 2023, I was asked to reference their new UI and art direction images to redesign the icons that align with the new direction.

The challenge was creating shapes that aligned with the new UI. It wasn't just about replacing curves with straight lines; the key was ensuring the icons still captured the distinct features of each aircraft, especially when viewed at smaller sizes (as they appear on the actual screen). I was able to maintain the unique contours that would have been lost by simply straightening them out by using flexible, angular lines.
        This approach also brought more consistency to the entire set. Unlike the previous designs where each aircraft had a unique curvature, the use of straight lines allowed for the angles of each straight line to be more or less modular based on pixel coordinates. The result was a more systematized icon set with a consistent look that truly embodies the new UI of Aerospace Intelligence.
